Vermont’s largest equine competition bows out for first time in nearly 3 decades
Nearly three decades ago, New England’s largest hunter/jumper competition began as a tiny horse show in the parking lot of a ski resort in Killington. After a few venue changes, the Vermont Summer Festival horse show settled in at Harold Beebe Farm, where it has since evolved into a six-week circuit and the richest sport event based on purse in the state of Vermont, offering more than $750,000 in prize money.
Competitions, spanning all levels, range from cross-rails to weekly grand prix events. The family-friendly festival attracts competitors and spectators from across the country. Festival organizers said this summer’s cancellation is the first in its history and they look forward to the 2021 season.
