Fairgrounds will remain empty this summer
Aggie Fair cancels for first time in 46-year history
At the beginning of August, fairgoers head to the Adams Agricultural Fair for a weekend filled with horse and oxen pulls, sheep-shearing demonstrations, tractor and truck pulls, livestock competitions, a demolition derby and a rodeo.
The Aggie Fair, as it’s commonly known, began as a one-day event in 1975. A year later, dairy- and beef-cow judging was added along with a flea market, an art show, children’s arts, performances and displays of farm tools and antique bottles. By 1978, the fair had expanded to three days of events, including a horse show. It moved to its current location, Bowe Field, in the 1980s.
But this August, the fairgrounds will remain empty and silent. For the first time in its 46-year history, the Adams Agricultural Fair has been canceled. Organizers say the decision was not made lightly and that the fair will be back in 2021.
