Dorset Theatre Festival, the ‘kitchen table of the community,’ suspends 2020 season

Nestled in the quaint village that shares its name, the Dorset Theatre Festival provides over 10,000 audience members with four mainstage productions between June and September. This year, however, the novel coronavirus forced the festival to suspend its in-person season.

Fortunately, the festival organizers plan to bring world-class theater to devoted fans in other ways. As in years past, the festival sponsors play development for burgeoning artists, some of which go on to win accolades and grace the stages of New York City. In addition, the festival intends to host digital programming such as artist chats, play discussions and original work from its Women Artists Writing Group.

The theater’s 2020 selections “will be back next, or in a future, season,” the playhouse said.
