Shakespeare & Company turns campus into drive-in theater
Founded in 1978, Shakespeare and Company continues to aspire to perform as the Elizabethans did: in love with poetic language, visceral experience and the mysteries of the universe. At the same time, the company is committed to the ideals of inquiry, balance and harmony by nurturing the creative impulse, exploring universal themes and engaging the widest possible audience. The company does this by producing Shakespearen works alongside contemporary pieces, while also providing educational and training programs.
Although shows from this summer’s season, including “King Lear,” starring Christopher Lloyd, as well as an outdoor production of “Much Ado About Nothing,” are postponed until 2021, the grounds of its Lenox campus are not idle this summer. The theater company has partnered with the Berkshire International Film Festival to create a drive-in theater. Its parking lot accommodates 42 cars with “social spacing.” Films will run Thursdays and Sundays through Sept. 20.
