Strolling of the Heifers cancels annual Stroll Weekend
It’s not uncommon for cows to cross the road in Vermont. But parade down Main Street? That’s a little rarer, except in Brattleboro, which hosts the annual “Strolling of the Heifers” parade. The cow-led procession is a staple of early June, but just a single event in a full year of activities sponsored by the Strolling of the Heifers organization. The nonprofit connects farms and food businesses to promote local economies and “slow living.” The movement also gives space for local growers, artists and musicians to showcase their craft at its public “River Garden” building.
Unfortunately, health guidelines to prevent outbreaks of COVID-19 made the Strolling of the Heifers parade impossible this year. The River Garden may open as restrictions are relaxed, but the events held there — such as Brown Bag lunches and vendor expos — are canceled until further notice.
