Vermont Arts Exchange seeks new ways to bring art to the community
Since 1997, the Vermont Arts Exchange has turned refuse into art. That theme has guided the studio from its time in a run-down factory to a brick building on Main Street in the quaint village of North Bennington. From its new digs at the heart of a community, VAE engages in “Artreach,” an initiative to take art out of the gallery and integrate it in public places. Whether you enjoy papermaking, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, drawing, painting, writing, music or dance, VAE will have something for you.
During COVID-19, when community is more important than ever, VAE is exploring ways for community members to enjoy art in a safe way. The gallery’s education, exhibition and music programs are not running this summer, but Executive Director Matthew Perry is hoping to try new programming, including “walk-by outside galleries” to help art and people meet.
