Oldest professional theater in Vermont ‘reimagines’ 2020 season
Weston Playhouse has faced struggles before. The playhouse — with stages in an ornate village theater and a state-of-the-art studio adjacent to a farm — was launched during the Great Depression, burned down in 1962 and has been threatened by several floods throughout its 83-year history. But the risk associated with public gatherings due to COVID-19 has forced the theater to adapt its 2020 season.
The Playhouse moved its three scheduled performances for 2020 — “Ring of Fire,” “Kinky Boots” and “Steel Magnolias” — to next year, and plans to hold “readings of brand-new musicals and plays, concerts, and events featuring Weston favorites.”
“We will continue to work toward the day when we can all be together again at the theater,” the playhouse said in a statement.
