Renowned American music patron established this Berkshire concert series
South Mountain Concerts cancelled until 2021
Elizabeth Sprague Coolidge, who dedicated her life to supporting music in America, helped found this concert series and construct the Concert Hall in 1918. The building, now on the National Register of Historic Buildings, has hosted some of the most influential artists of the 20th century, including Leonard Bernstein and Gary Graffman.
The organization celebrated its 100th anniversary two years ago by hosting the Escher, Saint Lawrence, Juilliard and Emerson string quartets.
Although the concerts usually take place in the fall, the tight proximity of seating in the Concert Hall has prompted organizers to cancel the concert series for only the second time since World War II.
