Best of South VT: Angry Egg 2

By Ahmad Yassir, Vermont Country Magazine.

In a town with plenty of reasons to get up early, The Angry Egg 2 has given Bennington another one: breakfast worth making plans around.

Owners Steve and Liz have built The Angry Egg 2 into a distinctly local gathering place, where generous plates, creative takes on breakfast and brunch, and a welcoming atmosphere have earned the Downtown Bennington restaurant a loyal following. That community support has now translated into a 2026 Readers’ Choice honor: Best Breakfast in Bennington County.

The recognition is a reflection of what the Angry Egg team has been building since bringing the family-owned restaurant to Vermont after a successful run in Connecticut. Their approach is straightforward but never boring — familiar breakfast favorites get plenty of personality, while the menu leaves room for those looking for something a little more indulgent or unexpected.

Breakfast is served all day, with favorites ranging from the Angry Egg Sammich, stacked with eggs, bacon, Cabot extra-sharp cheddar, chipotle mayo and arugula, to the Stuffed French Toast with mascarpone, berries, maple butter and whipped cream. For the truly hungry, the I’m Hangry brings together eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, home fries and toast.

But food is only part of the Angry Egg experience.

The restaurant has become a place where breakfast and community naturally overlap. Local and regional musicians have performed there, while art, photography, handmade crafts and antiques have found a home among the tables. The result is a space that feels connected to the creative energy of Downtown Bennington rather than simply situated within it.

Steve and Liz also remain committed to working with local butchers and vendors, keeping quality ingredients at the center of what comes out of the kitchen.

For the owners, being named Best Breakfast is ultimately about the people who keep coming through the door.

“We are so grateful to the Bennington community for continuing to support us,” the Angry Egg team says. “This award means so much because it comes from the people who have welcomed us and made us feel at home here.”

At 467 Main St., The Angry Egg 2 has become a familiar part of the Downtown Bennington breakfast scene — a place to meet friends, linger over brunch, discover something new on the menu or simply start the day with a plate that leaves you feeling pretty happy you got out of bed.
