Nestled in the heart of vibrant Brattleboro, Vermont, flanked by the Amtrak railroad and the Connecticut River, is the newly opened dining spot, the Rail & River Tavern. After a full renovation and modernization, the Rail & River Tavern has opened its doors as the area’s premier dining establishment.
A family-friendly atmosphere with views of the Wantastiquet Mountains and Connecticut River is just one of the unique surprises you can expect when you enter their location, located at 36 Bridge st. The first floor offers sit-down indoor dining and a wrap-around deck perched over the Connecticut River with outdoor seating. A full-service bar with ample seating gives views of the former Vermont/New Hampshire bridge and its pristine waterways below. And if you look closely at the north wall, you will see the VT/NH state line drawn to represent straddling both states. The second floor, named the Wantastiquet Sky Bar, offers breathtaking views of the river and mountains with a year-round rooftop bar. Plush seating and a wraparound deck let you enjoy a cocktail and a bite to eat while you take it all in. The whole skybar can open its garage-style doors for an open-air experience that can’t be beat.
The concept, designed by owner Paul Belogour, was inspired by his time overseas at different rooftop bars with views of the city and surrounding area. “It’s a great way to feel you are part of the area, becoming one with its surroundings and scenery”, says Belogour. “Whether it’s mid-summer with the river and boats passing by, Fall time with beautiful views of the changing leaves on the mountain landscape, or during winter with snow-capped mountains and snow glistening off the river, it’s a truly beautiful four-season skybar to sit and enjoy yourself.” Says Belogour.
General Manager, Timothy Moss, describes the venue as family-friendly, with something special for everyone. “We really took everything into consideration when designing the restaurant and its offerings. A simple yet elevated menu offers familiar family favorites with a Vermont twist.” Said Moss. “It’s the kind of place you can feel like a regular, or come as a tourist for a truly special dining experience while passing through Vermont.”
Plans include live music at the Skybar on weekends, special Vermont goods incorporated into the menu, such as Vermont Maple Syrup produced at Viking Farms in Guildford, Vermont, and a full beer and wine list featuring many popular Vermont brews, such as Vermont Beer Makers’ seasonal beers and brews.
